All "wild-bred" Mustangs & Burros are welcome! This includes: Mustangs & Burros from USFS, BLM, National Parks, a Reservation or federal public lands (documented) Mustangs & Burros born in off-range holding (or dam proven "in foal" prior to adoption/sale) ANY adoption / sale timeline is allowed for most divisions* (*except GREEN DIVISIONS - See next question for required adoption/purchase timelines) ALL INFORMATION IS PENDING FINAL PUBLICATION OF THE RULES.

GREEN HORSE DIVISIONS: Adoption/Sale timelines are ONLY REQUIRED for these divisions. Mustangs can come from USFS, BLM, any federal agency or Reservation within the outlined timeline. (MHF will NOT organize pick-ups, but will provide information & can coordinate options with the USFS) 1-YEAR Division: adopted / purchased between October 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026 2-YEAR Division: adopted / purchased between October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2025 [HORSE TIMELINES will be based on FIRST foster / adoption / purchase date - if you have a confirmed 'untouched' case to be considered for eligibility, contact Shows@mustangheritagefoundation.org with details] PICK UP RESOURCES: Click on "Double Devil Wildhorse Corral" - complete a Selection Form & Application to arrange a pick up at your nearest location. We understand not all mustangs and burros are sold with full documentation. There are several ways to help identify whether an animal was "wild-bred": Visible brand Microchip ID Official letter from a government agency We will consider any "wild-bred" eligibility concerns on a CASE-BY-CASE basis. Youth have been a large part of MHF programs & events for many years. While the divisions may categorize them differently, YES - youth will be able to compete! Some disciplines will offer levels regardless of age (i.e. Novice & Advanced) Other disciplines will divide by age groups (i.e. Youth & Adult) We will outline minimum ages that are appropriate for each discipline and division - TBD. Yes, Yearlings are able to compete in disciplines that are NOT under-saddle. (Under-saddle divisions are only open to horses 4 years old or more) Once qualified, Yearlings are eligible to compete in the IN-HAND divisions, LIBERTY divisions, and the FREESTYLE INVITATIONAL. There is no adoption timeline requirement - just note that any age equine on any adoption/purchase timeline will be in the same division.

Not necessarily. While we are not including a traditional Extreme Mustang Makeover (EMM) in the same style, the GREEN DIVISIONS (1-yr adopted & 2-yr adopted) are replacing the legacy of those events. Green divisions will each include 3 classes - overall total score wins: Horsemanship Riding pattern Trail (No Freestyle Finals... Freestyles offered as another division) Why? Because we listened... Trainers want to produce a mustang with a solid foundation that prepares them to move on to successful, lasting homes. While the flash & pizazz of EMMs created the much-needed attention for mustangs over many years, that meant some horses (who needed more time) were left out. On average, only <50% of EMM horses were ready for the competition in time. MHF is pleased to join the transition and aim for higher returns of well-developed animals in these new Green horse divisions.
