Meet the 2025 EMM Competitors
Under-Saddle Class

Ashen
My name is Ashen Antal, and I’m from Snowflake, Arizona. This is my second time competing in an Extreme Mustang Makeover, and I’m excited to be here with CSH Sage. I fell in love with mustangs at a young age and followed that passion by starting my business, Canyon State Horsemanship. CSH strives to place as many mustangs into forever homes training them to their owners needs. My goal is to help people see what these horses are truly capable of. It’s a privilege to be part of this event and to represent the mustang community alongside so many talented trainers.

Audrey
Hello, everyone. My name is Audrey Cowan, and I’m a trainer from Franklin, Kentucky. My passion for horses has been unwavering since childhood. From an early age, I found myself drawn to the equestrian world, beginning with local club shows where I competed on a spirited pony—an experience that likely ignited my love for feisty, independent horses.
Raised in a family deeply involved in speed events such as barrel racing, pole bending, and rodeoing, I spent my first ten years immersed in the fast-paced world of rodeo. I was also actively involved in 4-H and FFA, where I not only showed horses but a variety of livestock as well. As I grew older and more experienced, I eagerly explored other areas of the equestrian world, always seeking new challenges and opportunities to deepen my connection with horses. It wasn’t until 2019, when a friend invited me to the Kentucky TIP Challenge, that I discovered my deep affinity for Mustangs. Despite my background with AQHA horses and a lack of experience in starting a horse from the ground up, I was immediately captivated. My first Mustang, though wild, was a true saint. His patience and calm demeanor taught me invaluable lessons, and it was through this experience that I truly fell in love with the breed. Since then, I’ve competed in numerous TIP Challenges across the country, participated in a few Extreme Mustang Makeovers, and showcased my Mustangs in various disciplines, including trail, ranch, and cow working events. I’ve made it a point to not only develop these incredible animals but to actively promote the Mustang brand and its unique qualities. One of my proudest moments came in 2023, during my final year as a youth competitor at the Extreme Mustang Makeover in Franklin, TN. There, I had the privilege of working with my yearling Mustang, "Phineas," and together, we won the entire competition. Although I was initially uncertain about continuing into the adult division, I knew that if I didn’t take that step, I would regret it. And so, here I am—an adult competitor in my first Extreme Mustang Makeover, eager to see where this journey will take me. I’m excited to continue promoting the Mustang breed and to embrace the challenges and triumphs ahead.

Hi! My name is Katrina Ordway, I am a trainer, equine sales marketing consultant, and owner/operator of a boarding/training facility. I have had a passion for everything equine since childhood, taking every opportunity to be around horses starting at a young age. In early years I worked as a stall cleaner and volunteer at local barns to work off lessons and receive riding opportunities. In adolescent years I started working at equine and cattle outfits while attending school. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with an agricultural business degree in 2023, and started a student worker position that turned into a training employment opportunity at the same facility I currently work at in my last year of school. Here I have worked with not only Mustangs but also QHs, WBs, TBs, Lusitanos, Fresians, Andalusians, and more. I currently share my home with 1 Quarter Horse, 1 Quarter Pony and 1 Pony (plus my new mustang) as well as dogs, cats, and chickens. This will be my first mustang competition and I am beyond excited to see what incredible things come from this opportunity for both of us!

Brandon
Brandon Pate. I was raised in southern Georgia where row crops and cattle were a normal life for me. I never had any interests in horses. After my military service I moved to western Kentucky and met my wife. She grew up with horses and started her training career early in life. She began to teach me all about equine as I assisted with her program. I started finding therapy through horses and my focus in daily life changed. After my affiliation with a few EMM horses I knew someday I would take on the challenge; here I am. Hunting, Millwright and mechanics are my hobbies. I enjoy working, taking care of our facility, farm and producing our own hay. I love time with my wife and raising our children together above all.

Mattie
Mattie is a trainer at Quiet Rein Farm, who specializes in teaching, training, and keeping things running smoothly. She is excellent with riders and horses of all different ages and abilities, and loves to help each of her students set and reach goals. Like Catherine, Mattie is a UConn Alumni bringing QRF even more pride for the UConn Department of Animal Science. She has been riding since age 6 and is a well-rounded horsewoman, having ridden in almost every discipline including Hunters, Jumpers, Dressage, Western, Polo, and Eventing. Dominique
I have been training horses since I was a teenager many, many years ago. I got involved with mustangs in 2012 and I have never looked back. I enjoy training mustangs because they are all different and they always teach you so much more about yourself than you can teach the horse. I hope that this mare I have this go round proves to be an excellent ambassador and a willing partner.

My Name is Claire Fields, I’m 11 years old and I have been riding horses since I was 5. In the summer of 2023 my horseback riding instructor mentored a friend of mine as she gentled her first Mustang for a Tip Challenge. I went most every day to the barn to watch my friend train and work with her Mustang. I was fascinated by the bond she and her Mustang created. My riding instructor also does liberty work with her horses and I have taken a lot of interest in that as well. My mom and I met with people from the Mustang Heritage Foundation at the International Liberty Horse Festival in the fall of 2024. After talking with them I asked my mom if I could compete in the EMM. After a lot of discussion about the commitment and responsibility she and my dad agreed! My mentor is Janet Presnell, I have been taking lessons with her since 2021 and board my horse at her ranch. I love Janet’s methods when it comes to gentling horses and I am learning so much from her!

Liberty is one of her passions, and she strives to put a solid ground and liberty foundation on every horse she trains. She firmly believes groundwork and liberty are key to a good, well-rounded horse. Her favorite part of training Mustangs and other training challenge horses is watching them transform into a healthier and more trusting horse. Building a relationship is always her first step towards helping each horse reach its full potential and succeed in whatever it may go on to do in life!

Annie
I began taking riding lessons at my brother and sister in law's farm about 6 years ago. I have progressed through the years from just a lesson student to being a very important part of the boarding and training facility as an assistant trainer, giving riding lessons, and working at the barn. I compete in 3 Day Eventing and Mustang Challenges. I placed 5th at my first TIP challenge in 2021 in South Carolina, competed in the Georgia TIP and placed 4th overall with my burro in 2022, and competed in the Tennessee EMM and South Carolina TIP last year in 2023. I enjoy the training process of gentling Mustangs and what it has taught me from starting from scratch all the way to the progression of having a trained partnership based on trust and patience, and hope that doing so will be a big part of my life for a long time. I plan to train professionally as I get older, continue competing, and to run a full lesson program at our farm in the future. I also enjoy playing the guitar and drawing and painting.

Lochlan
This is my first time ever training a mustang, and it has already been an amazing experience. I’ve always loved animals and sports, and working with a wild horse has taught me so much about patience, bravery, and responsibility.
Even though I’ve never trained a mustang before, I’ve faced my fears and built confidence by learning to connect with my horse. Every day brings something new, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come together.

Maggie
Born & Raised Around Horses In Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. As The Owner of Sugar Ridge Ranch established in 2021- my goal is to provide a good foundation for the mustang I choose in the live number drawing in Lebanon, Tennessee. I don’t consider myself a trainer by any means- just a girl who loves horses and have trained my own horses to carry me along the beaches here in the Outer Banks.

Tina
I am passionate about horses. Mustangs have a special place in my heart. I gentled my first mustang about 6 years ago. That mustang name is Chile. She is a great trail horse. She is also a liberty champion. I run a nonprofit called SoulStang. Our mission is to gentled as many mustangs as we can and find them good homes. Military veterans and first responder help with the gentling process. Veterans can relate to the problems that mustangs face. Veterans that volunteer for our program find purpose through caring for the Mustangs and learning the natural horsemanship process of gentling a Mustang. They find it very therapeutic without calling it therapy, These Mustangs literally helps save lives. Our other goal in the soulstang program is to educate the public. Demonstrating to the public how wonderful Mustangs are. I have three Mustangs of my own. Plus a wonderful Tennessee walking horse. My specialty is liberty horse training, gentling Mustangs. I also participate in cowboy mounted shooting competitions, carriage, driving, and I love to trail ride. It is a dream come true to participate in the extreme Mustang makeover.

I have always loved working with horses, ever since my parents bought our first horse 19 years ago. I enjoyed riding trails with my friends and after high school, I decided to branch out and intern at the Diamond-McNabb ranch program for a year in Wyoming. I gained a lot of confidence and knowledge working with horses as we used them for daily duties around the ranch, teaching them how to handle cattle, riding over rough terrain, and patience on the all-day cattle drives. After I returned, my husband encouraged me to pursue the Parelli Natural Horsemanship program, as I was struggling with a Quarter Horse mare that seemed to have no interest in what I was trying to train. Almost immediately after implementing my new skills, my mare turned around and we both began enjoying groundwork and saddle work so much more! I love using the Parelli program with my horses, and I do believe the horses enjoy it as well. Having always had an interest in mustangs, I purchased my first TIP trained mares in October of 2023, and fell in love with the breed. The 2025 Spectacular is my first EMM, and I am so honored and excited to be able to compete in this new, personal adventure! I am so grateful to my husband for being my partner in this journey, and by Gods grace, my dreams are coming true.

Dessie
Hi! I’m Dessie Shepherd and I’m the head trainer at Case 22 Ranchmanship in Ohio. This is my first time competing in the Extreme Mustang Makeover. I mainly train ranch horses but Astrid is only the second Mustang I’ve ever gotten feral to a good citizen. As much as I love my Quarter Horses, I gotta hand it to the mustangs.

Olivia
Olivia Steagall, from Rockvale, TN, has a love for "all things equestrian". Her passion began at a young age and in her early teens she immersed herself in learning how to play, ride, work with and train horses (both wild and domestic). She truly understands how to connect with a horse and teach them to form a partnership with their handler/rider. Over the years, her training style and communication have morphed into a valuable skillset, allowing her to train multiple Mustangs of varying ages from WILD to MILD and put solid foundations on each one - all of them going on to become happily domesticated horses.

Kitra
Hi, I am Kitra Wake. I love in NE Ohio. I am a wife and a mom of 3. I started training mustangs at 16yrs old and never stopped. I train as a hobby now. I work as a veterinary technician. I really enjoy mustangs and everything they can achieve. I love riding in every discipline. I love training and educating others on mustangs. So that all can see that mustangs are incredible.

Jim
To say this is a first, is an understatement. I call it horse and student. My name is Jim White, I am 64 and this will be my first Extreme Mustang Makeover event as a competitor. I have three mustangs from previous EMM's: 2017 Lexington, KY EMM, 2019 Lexington, KY EMM and 2023 Franklin, TN EMM. I also acquired a rescued mustang and have bought one directly from the BLM. I am looking forward to working with "Tiny Dancer" a 3-year-old mare from the Moriah, HA in Nevada. Please share with everyone you know and come out and watch the competition June 12-14th 2025.
